Doors Open to Qualified Personnel
Doors Open to Qualified Personnel
Who are considered specialised employees?
Both graduates of universities recognised in Germany and graduates of qualified vocational schools, also recognised in Germany.
What is new?
Those who have a recognised vocational qualification but do not yet have an employment contract in Germany can obtain a six-month residence permit to look for work. During this time, jobseekers can work for up to ten weeks on a trial basis or undertake an internship; the prerequisites for this are that they speak German at level B2 and have enough money to live on.
Until now, if a company wanted to recruit from a country outside the EU, the Labour Office would first check whether there was a German or EU citizen who was qualified. This prioritisation is now being abolished, but may be reintroduced if labour market conditions change.
Look for a place of work or training: Graduates from German schools abroad can come to Germany not only to study, but also to look for a place of work or training.
The migration of skilled labour from non-EU countries will not be restricted to ‘shortage occupations’.
Which professions are in short supply?
They include doctors, psychotherapists and health care professionals, IT specialists, engineers and construction technicians, aerospace technologists, mechatronics, electrotechnics, energy technology and other professionals from the fields of mathematics, informatics, natural sciences and technology.
